Want new players on your Minecraft server? Free server lists are where many players look for a server to join. This guide shows how to add your own server to the well-known lists, how to set up Votifier so players can vote for you, and how to make your listing stand out with a good MOTD, icon and banner.
Which server lists are there?
These lists are free to use and let you add your own server after creating an account (checked 4 November 2026):
- MinecraftServers.org: create an account, verify your email, then click Add server on your dashboard. Your server has to be online to be added. Supports Votifier (classic and NuVotifier v2).
- Minecraft-MP.com: register, then add your server with a valid address. Your server has to be online to be accepted. Has its own Votifier tutorial.
- Minecraft-Server-List.com: sign up for a username first, then submit your server. Meant for people who already run a server.
Other lists, such as Planet Minecraft and TopG, work the same way: make an account, add your address, fill in the details. Check each list's own help page for the exact fields and rules, as they change from time to time. Every list has content rules for names, descriptions and banners; breaking them can get your listing removed.
Want Dutch or Belgian players? Most big lists are international. Put NL or BE in your description or tags (where the list offers tags) so Dutch-speaking players can find you.
Step 1: your server address
Every list asks for your address. You find it in SparkPanel under Network, for example:
g-de-08.serverspark.nl:25567
Enter it including the port. Some lists have a separate port field: then put g-de-08.serverspark.nl in the address field and 25567 in the port field. Your server name may start with another node, such as g-fi-07; always copy it from SparkPanel.
A nicer option is your own domain, for example play.myserver.com, with an SRV record that points to your port. Players can then join without typing a port, and you can move your server later without changing every listing. How to set it up: Minecraft server IP and port. Bedrock players don't use SRV records, so if you also list a Bedrock or Geyser address, give it with the port.
Step 2: name, MOTD and icon
- MOTD: the text under your server name in the Minecraft server list, and on most list sites too. Set it in SparkPanel under Files in
server.propertiesatmotd=, then restart. Keep it short and say what makes your server different (for example "Survival SMP, 1.21, no pay-to-win"). More settings: server.properties explained. - Server icon: a 64 x 64 PNG named
server-icon.pngin the main folder of your server. Make one with our free Minecraft server icon maker. - Banner: many lists show a wide banner on your listing. The size differs per list (468 x 60 pixels is common), so check the list's own instructions. No flashing banners: lists remove those.
- Description: write honestly what players get: game mode, version, rules, whether you have a Discord, and whether Bedrock players can join. Don't promise things the server doesn't have.
Step 3: voting with Votifier
Most lists rank servers by votes. With NuVotifier a list tells your server when someone votes, so you can give that player a reward. NuVotifier needs its own port, and every ServerSpark Minecraft Java plan includes 1 extra port that you add yourself.
- In SparkPanel, open Network and add your extra port. Note the number, for example
25601. - Install NuVotifier on your Paper or Purpur server (see install Minecraft plugins) and restart once, so it creates its files.
- Open
plugins/Votifier/config.yml. Sethost: 0.0.0.0andport: 25601(your extra port). Save and restart. - On the list site, open the Votifier part of your listing. Enter your server address (without port), the Votifier port (
25601), and the public key fromplugins/Votifier/rsa/public.key. Copy the whole key as one line. Lists that use NuVotifier v2 ask for a token instead: you find it inconfig.ymlundertokens. - Use the list's test button if it has one, or vote yourself. The console shows a line when a vote arrives.
NuVotifier only receives votes. To give rewards, add a vote reward plugin such as VotingPlugin and set what players get per vote.
Is the port already in use by Simple Voice Chat or Geyser? The +3 ports extra costs €0.49 per month and gives you room for Votifier as well. Can't add an extra port on an older server? Email info@serverspark.nl with your server name and we add it for free.
Step 4: keep it online
Lists check whether your server is online and drop or lower servers that are often offline. Your ServerSpark server keeps running, also when nobody is playing, and restarts itself after a crash. Use a schedule in SparkPanel for daily restarts and backups (see files, backups and schedules), and check from outside with our Minecraft server status tool.
Optional: "Hosted by ServerSpark"
If you like your hosting, you can add a line like this to your listing or website. It's completely optional: you never have to mention us, and your server works exactly the same without it.
Hosted by ServerSpark: https://serverspark.nl/minecraft-server-hosting/?utm_source=serverlist&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=hosted_by
Does listing my server cost money? No. The lists in this guide are free to use. Some sell paid promotion spots, but you don't need those to be listed.
Do I need Votifier to be listed? No. You can be listed without it. Votifier only lets you reward players who vote, which helps you climb in the ranking.
Which port does Votifier use? 8192 by default, but on ServerSpark you use the extra port you added in SparkPanel under Network, and you put that same port on the list site.
Can I list a modded server? Yes. Mention the modpack and version in your description, so players know what to install.
