Updated 4 November 2026

To run several worlds on one Minecraft server, for example survival plus a creative or minigame world, install the free Multiverse-Core plugin on a Paper server and create the extra world with mv create creative normal. Players switch with mv tp creative. Everything runs on the same server, address and plan.

Commands were checked on 29 October 2026 against the official Multiverse documentation (mvplugins.org), which describes Multiverse-Core 5.

What you need

  • A Paper server (our default). Multiverse is a plugin, so it doesn't run on vanilla, Fabric, Forge or NeoForge.
  • Memory for the extra world. Each loaded world costs memory, mostly for the chunks around players in it. For survival plus one creative world with a handful of players, 4 GB is comfortable.
  • Operator rights for yourself: op YourName in the console.

Step 1: install Multiverse-Core

  1. In SparkPanel, open the Plugins tab, search for Multiverse-Core and install it.
  2. Restart the server. Your existing worlds (overworld, Nether, End) are added to Multiverse automatically.

New to plugins? See Install Minecraft plugins.

Step 2: create a world

Type the commands in the game chat with a /, or in the console without it.

  • A normal world: mv create survival2 normal
  • A flat world for building: mv create creative normal --world-type flat
  • A creative world that starts in creative mode: mv create creative normal --world-type flat --properties gamemode=creative
  • An extra Nether: mv create mynether nether (or the_end for an End)
  • With a fixed seed: add --seed 12345

Creating a world takes a moment; the server may lag for a few seconds while the spawn area is generated.

Step 3: move between worlds

  • Go there yourself: mv tp creative
  • Send a player: mv tp PlayerName creative
  • Set the spawn point where you stand: mv setspawn
  • See all worlds: mv list
Want normal players to switch worlds without commands? Build a portal with the add-on Multiverse-Portals, or give them the permission for mv tp with LuckPerms; see ranks with LuckPerms.

Separate inventories

By default, players carry the same inventory into every world. That means items built in creative can be carried into survival. Install Multiverse-Inventories to give each world (or group of worlds) its own inventory, health and XP. Do this before players start using the creative world.

Bring in an existing world

  1. Upload the world folder (with level.dat inside) under Files next to your world folder, for example as oldworld. A world from your PC? See Put your singleplayer world on a server.
  2. Type mv import oldworld normal. The world must be from the same Minecraft version as the server, or older.

The Multiverse documentation notes that on Paper 26.1 and newer, the server's own Nether and End are imported by their namespaced key, such as minecraft:the_nether, instead of a folder name.

Remove a world

  • mv unload creative: unloads it until the next restart. Folder and settings stay.
  • mv remove creative: removes it from Multiverse, but keeps the folder.
  • mv delete creative, then mv confirm with the code it shows, within 30 seconds: deletes the world folder for good. Make a backup first under Backups.

Game rules such as keep inventory can differ per world; set them while standing in that world. See Minecraft game rules explained.

Which plan?

Every loaded world adds memory use, especially when players are spread over several worlds. Survival plus one creative world with 5 to 15 players: 4 GB (€4.19 per month paid per quarter, €4.39 monthly billing). A hub with several minigame or build worlds: 6 GB (€6.09 / €6.29) or 8 GB (€8.49 / €8.79). Lag after adding worlds? See Fix Minecraft server lag. Plans: Minecraft server hosting.

Frequently asked questions

How do I add a second world to my Minecraft server? Install Multiverse-Core on a Paper server, restart, and type mv create worldname normal. Players go there with mv tp worldname.

How do I make a creative world next to survival? Type mv create creative normal --world-type flat --properties gamemode=creative, and add Multiverse-Inventories so creative items can't be brought into survival.

Does Multiverse work on Fabric or Forge? No. Multiverse is a plugin for Paper, Spigot and similar servers. Modded servers need a mod that adds dimensions instead.

Does a second world need a second server? No. All worlds run on the same server, with the same address. Players switch with a command or a portal.

Does mv remove delete my world? No. mv remove only takes the world out of Multiverse; the folder stays. Only mv delete followed by mv confirm deletes the files.
