Rust server: plugins and wipes

Install Oxide or Carbon plugins and wipe your map and blueprints.

Updated 4 November 2026

This guide covers the two things every Rust server owner does: adding plugins with Oxide (uMod) or Carbon, and wiping the map and blueprints. You do everything in SparkPanel.

1. Name, map size and seed

  1. Open your server in SparkPanel and go to Settings.
  2. Set Server Name, World Size (3000 is the default; 3500 to 4500 for bigger servers) and World Seed (any number; empty means random).
  3. Restart the server. A new size or seed creates a new map, so do this at a wipe.

2. Turn on Oxide or Carbon

  1. In SparkPanel, open Plugins and choose Oxide (uMod) (the most plugins and guides) or Carbon (faster, runs most Oxide plugins), then click Save.
  2. Restart the server. The framework is installed on start.
  3. Check the console: you'll see Oxide or Carbon loading.

3. Install a plugin

The quickest way: open Plugins in SparkPanel, pick one of the most popular uMod plugins or search for one, and click Install. It loads within a few seconds, without a restart. Remove a plugin there with one click too.

A plugin from somewhere else, like Codefling? Upload its .cs file under Files to oxide/plugins (Carbon: carbon/plugins). It loads the same way.

Settings for each plugin appear in oxide/config after the first load. Edit the file, then reload the plugin from the console:

oxide.reload PluginName

4. Make yourself admin

Find your SteamID64 (for example on steamid.io) and type in the console:

ownerid 7656119XXXXXXXXXX "YourName"
server.writecfg

Reconnect to the server to get admin rights.

5. Wipes

Forced wipe: Facepunch releases an update on the first Thursday of every month (around 20:00 Dutch time). Every server must wipe the map then. Restart your server after the update so it runs the new version. If the console still shows the old version, email us and we update it for you.

Map wipe

  1. Stop the server.
  2. In Files, open server/rust and delete the files that end in .map and .sav.
  3. Optional: set a new World Seed in Settings for a different map.
  4. Start the server. A fresh map is generated, which takes a few minutes.

Blueprint wipe

Also delete the files that start with player.blueprints in server/rust. Players then lose everything they learned.

Make a backup first via Backups → Create backup in SparkPanel, so you can always go back.

Which plan?

Rust needs a lot of memory. Our 8 GB plan runs a server for up to about 25 players with a map up to 3500 and a sensible set of plugins. Running a bigger community? Rust 12 GB (€10.49) and 16 GB (€13.39) are available with monthly billing; see Rust server with 8, 12 or 16 GB. Questions? Email info@serverspark.nl.
