A birthday party, sleepover or gaming afternoon where the kids want to play Minecraft together? With your own server they build together in one world, and only the guests can join. Here's how to set it up in fifteen minutes.

What you need

  • One device per child with Minecraft: tablet, phone, Switch, Xbox, PlayStation or PC.
  • Internet (home wifi is enough).
  • A 1 or 2 GB server. For 4 to 10 children, 2 GB is plenty.

Which server?

  • Do the kids play on tablet, phone or console? Choose a Bedrock server. That's the version most children have.
  • Do they all play on a PC or laptop with the Minecraft Launcher? Choose a Java server.
  • Mixed? Take a Java server with Geyser; see Let Bedrock players join.

Step by step

  1. Order a few days before. The server is ready in minutes, but this gives you time to test calmly.
  2. Make it safe. In SparkPanel under Settings, click Make my server child-safe: only children on the list can join, they can't attack each other and there are no monsters.
  3. Collect names. Ask the guests' parents for their child's player name (gamertag), and add them in the console: allowlist add Name (Bedrock) or whitelist add Name (Java).
  4. Creative building? Set the game mode to creative so they can build without collecting materials.
  5. Test. Join once yourself with the address from SparkPanel (Network), so you know it works. See IP and port.
  6. At the party: everyone adds the server with the address and port, and off they go.
Microsoft child accounts need permission to play online. Ask the parents to turn it on beforehand in Microsoft Family Safety (or the console's parental controls). See Minecraft server for kids.

Party ideas

  • Build contest: everyone builds the nicest house in 30 minutes, the birthday child picks the winner.
  • One big build together: a castle, a theme park or a copy of your own house.
  • Treasure hunt: hide chests with "treasure" in the world beforehand.

What does it cost?

With monthly billing, one month costs €1.09 (Java 1 GB) or €1.29 (Bedrock 1 GB), or €2.19 for 2 GB. Choose monthly billing when you order, cancel online in the customer portal after the party, and the server runs until the end of the paid month. Download the world first as a keepsake, or keep the server so the kids can keep building.
