Updated 3 November 2026

Hytale was built for mods from day one, and your ServerSpark Hytale server supports them. Players don't need to install anything themselves: the server sends the mod content to everyone who joins. This guide shows where mods go, how to check they loaded, and what to do when one breaks your server.

New to your Hytale server? Start with Set up your Hytale server.

1. Find a mod

The official place for Hytale mods is CurseForge. On a mod's page, check three things before you download:

  • Hytale version: it must match the version your server runs. Hytale is in early access, so updates can break older mods.
  • Server or client: the mod must work on a server (most do).
  • Dependencies: some mods need another mod to work. Download those too.

2. Make a backup

A broken mod can stop your server from starting or damage your world. In SparkPanel, open Backups and make one before you add anything.

3. Upload the mod

  1. Stop your server in SparkPanel.
  2. Open Files and go to the folder Server/mods.
  3. Upload the mod file (usually a .jar). If the mod page says the download must be extracted first, do that on your computer and upload what it tells you to.
  4. Start the server again.
Don't rename a mod file to make it "fit" a newer Hytale version. Wait for the mod author to release an update.

4. Check it loaded

Watch the Console while the server starts. The plugin manager prints each mod it loads. When the server is ready you see Hytale Server Booted!. If a mod fails, you see an error with the mod's name just before that.

Early plugins

A few advanced mods are "early plugins" that load before the game itself. They go in Server/earlyplugins and only load when you switch on Load Early Plugins under Settings in SparkPanel. Only use this when a mod's page asks for it: early plugins can change how the whole server works.

When the server won't start

  1. Read the last lines in the console: the mod that broke usually appears in the error.
  2. Remove that mod from Server/mods and start again.
  3. Still stuck? Remove all mods you added recently, or restore your backup under Backups.

There's also an Ignore Broken Mods switch under Settings. It lets the server start without the mods that fail. Handy for a quick fix, but remove the broken mod properly afterwards.

How much memory?

Every mod uses memory. A few small mods run fine on 4 GB. Many mods or big content packs need 8 GB. Questions? Email info@serverspark.nl or ask in our Discord.
