How much RAM for a tModLoader server?
A rough guide based on the mods you run. You can upgrade later in the customer portal and keep your world.
1 GB: a few light mods
Quality-of-life mods like Recipe Browser, Boss Checklist or Magic Storage. €0.99 per month paid quarterly, €1.29 monthly.
2 GB: content mods
Several content mods, or Thorium. €2.59 per month paid quarterly, €2.89 monthly.
4 GB: Calamity
Calamity, or Calamity with add-ons and a group of friends. €5.29 per month paid quarterly, €5.59 monthly.
One-click switch
Open Mods in SparkPanel and click Switch to tModLoader. The server is reinstalled in a few minutes; your world and settings stay.
Steam Workshop mods
Install popular server mods with one click, or paste the Workshop link of any other mod. Mods it needs are added automatically.
Backups
A nightly encrypted backup at a separate location, plus a backup slot you use yourself before you add a big mod.
How it works
Your modded Terraria server in four steps
1. Order a Terraria plan below; the server is created automatically. 2. Switch: stop the server, open Mods and click Switch to tModLoader. 3. Add mods: click Install on popular mods, or paste a Steam Workshop link and click Add. SparkPanel tells you when a mod only works on players' computers, so you can leave it off the server. 4. Start: the first start takes longer while the mods download. When the console shows Server started, you're ready.
Your friends install tModLoader from Steam (free if they own Terraria), choose Multiplayer, Join via IP and enter the address and port from Connect in SparkPanel. Missing mods? tModLoader offers to download them from the server. Full guide: Modded Terraria server with tModLoader and Calamity.
Good to know
Calamity on a new or an existing world
Works well
- Starting a new world for Calamity: set a new World Name under Settings, so its new biomes are created with the world.
- Switching back to vanilla Terraria later: same Mods page, your world and settings stay.
- Adding or removing mods during your playthrough: make a backup under Backups first.
Keep in mind
- An existing world doesn't get Calamity's new biomes, because those are created when a world is made.
- Removing a mod removes its items from the world.
- Calamity needs the 4 GB plan; on 1 or 2 GB it runs out of memory.

Is tModLoader included with every Terraria plan?
Yes. Every Terraria plan can switch to tModLoader in SparkPanel under Mods, and back to vanilla Terraria. Your world and settings stay when you switch.
Can I install Calamity?
Yes. Install Calamity Mod from the list of popular mods under Mods; Calamity Mod Music comes along. Calamity needs the 4 GB plan.
Can I use any Steam Workshop mod?
Yes. Paste the mod's Steam Workshop link or number under Mods and click Add. Mods it needs are added automatically and the server downloads them on its next start.
Do my friends need to install the mods?
They need tModLoader from Steam, which is free if they own Terraria. When they join, tModLoader offers to download the server's mods for them.
Does tModLoader stay up to date?
Yes. tModLoader updates itself when your server starts, so it stays compatible with the latest mod versions.
What does it cost?
Terraria 1 GB costs €1.09 per month paid quarterly or €1.39 monthly, 2 GB €2.59 or €2.89, and 4 GB €5.29 or €5.59. VAT included.
