This guide covers your Terraria server: the world, a password, and how you and your friends join.

1. World settings (before the first start, or for a new world)

In SparkPanel under Settings:

  • World Name: the name of your world.
  • World Size: 1 small, 2 medium, 3 large. Large worlds need more memory.
  • Difficulty: 0 Classic (default), 1 Expert, 2 Master, 3 Journey.
  • World Seed: optional, for a specific world.
  • Max Players and MOTD (the welcome message).
Journey worlds only accept Journey characters, and Classic, Expert and Master worlds don't accept Journey characters. Choose the difficulty that matches your characters.

The world is created on the first start. To start a new world later, set a new World Name and restart.

2. A password (optional)

By default your server is open to anyone with the address. To keep it to friends, fill in Password under Settings and restart the server.

3. Join your server

  1. Start Terraria and choose Multiplayer → Join via IP.
  2. Pick your character.
  3. Enter the address from SparkPanel under Connect: first the host name (for example g-fi-07.serverspark.nl), then the port.
  4. Enter the password if you set one.

4. Bring your own world

  1. On your PC, your worlds are in Documents\My Games\Terraria\Worlds (a .wld file per world).
  2. Stop the server, open the Files tab in SparkPanel and upload the .wld file to the folder where the server keeps its worlds (next to the existing .wld file).
  3. Set World Name to the name of the uploaded file without .wld, and start the server.

5. Mods with tModLoader

Want Calamity, Magic Storage or other mods? In SparkPanel, open Mods:

  1. Stop your server and click Switch to tModLoader. The server is reinstalled in a few minutes; your world and settings stay.
  2. Pick a popular mod, or paste the link of any tModLoader mod on the Steam Workshop, and click Install or Add. Mods it needs are added too.
  3. Start your server. It downloads the mods while starting.

Players join with tModLoader, free on Steam; the server sends them the mods they need. Big mods like Calamity or Thorium need 2 GB of memory or more. Switch back to vanilla with one click whenever you like.
