Mods make Valheim new again: magic loot, backpacks, more building pieces, planting anything you like. On a ServerSpark Valheim server you add mods in SparkPanel with one click. The one thing to know: in Valheim, players almost always need the same mods as the server. This guide shows how to keep everyone in sync.
1. Turn mods on
- Open Mods in SparkPanel and click Turn mods on. SparkPanel installs BepInEx, the mod loader Valheim mods use.
- Make a backup under Backups first if your world matters to you.
2. Add mods
Under Mods you see the most-downloaded server mods from Thunderstore, or search for one. Click Install; mods it needs, like the Jötunn library, come along. Restart the server afterwards.
Popular choices for a group of friends:
- Plant Everything: plant berry bushes, mushrooms, thistle and more.
- Epic Loot: magic items, loot drops and enchanting.
- Adventure Backpacks: backpacks for more carrying room.
- Multi User Chest: several players can use the same chest at once.
- Plan Build: plan, copy and share buildings.
Mods marked players need it too in SparkPanel must also be installed on every player's computer. That's nearly all Valheim mods.
3. Give your friends the same mods
The easy way is r2modman, a free mod manager:
- Install r2modman, choose Valheim and create a profile.
- Install the same mods as on your server, in the same versions.
- Share them: in r2modman, export your profile as a code and send it to your friends. They import the code and get exactly the same mods.
- Everyone starts Valheim through r2modman with Start modded and joins the server as usual.
4. Mod settings
After the first start with a mod, its settings file appears under Files in BepInEx/config. Change it, save, and restart the server. Many mods send the server's settings to players automatically, so the server decides.
5. How much memory?
The Valheim 4 GB plan runs a group of friends with a handful of mods. Big content packs with many new items and monsters use more memory: if your server gets slow or stops, remove mods you don't use or ask us about more room.
