Make a Cobblemon server (Pokémon in Minecraft)

Cobblemon is a popular mod that brings Pokémon-style creatures to Minecraft: catching, training, battling and evolving, in your own Minecraft world. With your own server you play it together with friends. At ServerSpark it's ready in a few minutes.

1. Pick your plan

For the official Cobblemon modpack with a few friends we recommend 6 GB. Using a bigger Cobblemon pack with many extra mods, or playing with more than 10 people? Choose 8 GB. More info: How much RAM does a Minecraft server need?

2. Install the official Cobblemon modpack

The Cobblemon team has an official modpack on Modrinth, with Cobblemon and the mods that go with it. Install it like this:

  1. Open your server in SparkPanel and click Stop.
  2. Go to Settings and under Server software choose Modrinth modpack.
  3. Paste this link: https://modrinth.com/modpack/cobblemon-fabric
  4. Leave the version field on latest. You then get the newest version of the pack.
  5. Under World, choose start a fresh world (old one kept), tick the confirmation and click Switch.
  6. Wait for the installation to finish and start the server. The first start takes a few minutes, because the world is being created.
There is also an official NeoForge version: https://modrinth.com/modpack/cobblemon-neoforge. Only choose it if you want to add NeoForge mods; otherwise the Fabric version is the easiest choice. See also Fabric vs Forge vs NeoForge: which one?

3. Have your friends install the same pack

Every player needs the Cobblemon modpack in the same version as the server. The easiest way is the free Modrinth App:

  1. Install the Modrinth App and search for Cobblemon Official Modpack [Fabric].
  2. Choose the same version as on your server and click Install.
  3. Launch the pack, choose Multiplayer → Add Server and enter your server's address (in SparkPanel under Network).

You can see which version your server runs in the console when it starts, and in the message after installing.

Tips for your Cobblemon server

  • Make backups. Your friends put a lot of time into their teams. Turn on an automatic backup under Backups or Schedules.
  • Only want your own group on the server? Turn on the whitelist in the console with whitelist on and whitelist add PlayerName.
  • Updates: when a new version of the pack comes out, switch the server again with keep my world if the Minecraft version stays the same, and have everyone update the pack in the Modrinth App. Make a backup first.

Frequently asked questions

Can players on phone or console join? No. Cobblemon is a mod for Minecraft Java on PC.

Can I use another Cobblemon pack? Yes, any pack on Modrinth with a server version works the same way: paste that pack's link. Check the pack's page for how much memory it needs.
