Updated 4 November 2026

This guide covers your Garry's Mod server: gamemode and map, Workshop addons, and a Steam token so your server shows up properly in the server list.

1. Gamemode, map and players

In SparkPanel under Settings:

  • Gamemode: sandbox by default. Other examples: terrortown (TTT), darkrp (needs the DarkRP addon), murder.
  • Map: gm_flatgrass by default, for example gm_construct or a Workshop map.
  • Max Players and Tickrate.

Restart the server after changing these.

2. Server name and password

Open the Files tab in SparkPanel, go to garrysmod/cfg and edit server.cfg:

hostname "My ServerSpark Server"
sv_password "" // put a password between the quotes to make it private
rcon_password "choose-a-strong-password"

Save and restart.

3. Workshop addons

  1. On the Steam Workshop, create a Collection with the addons and maps you want. Make it public.
  2. Copy the number at the end of the collection address (?id=...).
  3. In Settings, paste it into Workshop ID and restart. The server downloads the addons on start.
Players also need the addons. Many addons are downloaded automatically when players join; for others you add resource.AddWorkshop("ID") in a Lua file under garrysmod/lua/autorun/server/. Check the addon's page.

4. Steam token (recommended)

Without a token, your server runs on an anonymous account and ranks lower in the server list.

  1. Go to steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers and log in.
  2. Enter App ID 4000 (Garry's Mod) and a description, and create the token.
  3. Paste the token into Steam Account Token under Settings and restart.

5. Join

Open the console in Garry's Mod (enable it under Options → Keyboard → Advanced) and type connect followed by the address from SparkPanel under Connect, for example connect g-fi-07.serverspark.nl:25565.
