This guide shows how to set up your Factorio server: the name and password, how friends join, and how to bring your own save. You change the settings in SparkPanel under Settings.

1. Name and password

  1. Open your server in SparkPanel and go to Settings.
  2. Server Name and Server Description are what players see.
  3. Fill in Server password if only your friends may join. Leave it empty for an open server.
  4. Maximum Slots is how many players can be online at once.
  5. Restart the server.

2. Join your server

  1. Start Factorio and choose Multiplayer → Connect to address.
  2. Enter the address from SparkPanel under Connect, for example g-fi-01.serverspark.nl:25570.
  3. Enter the password if you set one.
In the public server list: enter your factorio.com username and token (on your profile at factorio.com) under Server Username and Server Token. Then open data/server-settings.json in Files and set "public": true under visibility.

3. Bring your own save

  1. On your PC, open %appdata%\Factorio\saves and find your save, for example MyFactory.zip.
  2. Stop the server.
  3. In SparkPanel, go to Files, open the saves folder and upload the file.
  4. In Settings, set Save Name to the file name without .zip (here: MyFactory).
  5. Start the server.

4. Mods

Upload mods (the .zip files from the mod portal) to the mods folder in Files and restart. When players join, Factorio offers to download the same mods for them. Make a backup before adding big mods.

5. Backups

Factorio saves automatically every 10 minutes (Auto Save Interval). We also make a backup of your server every night. Before big changes, make an extra one via Backups → Create backup.

Which plan?

1 GB is enough for a small factory with a few friends. Take 2 GB for megabases or many mods; you can upgrade at any time.
