Updated 4 November 2026
Replit, Render and Railway are app platforms, not bot hosts: their free plans stop, sleep or run out of credit for a bot that must stay connected 24/7, and the always-on options we checked cost $5 (Railway Hobby) to $15 (Replit Reserved VM) a month. Dedicated bot hosting at ServerSpark runs a discord.js or discord.py bot 24/7 for €0.69 per month paid per quarter (€0.79 with monthly billing), VAT included.
Everything about Replit, Render and Railway below comes from their own websites and documentation, checked on 28 October 2026. Plans change often, so check their sites for the current terms.
What happens to a Discord bot on each platform
| Platform | Free option | Always-on option |
|---|---|---|
| Replit | The Starter plan includes one free published app, which expires after 30 days (you can publish it again). | Reserved VM deployments, meant for things like "chat bots that must stay connected": from $15.00 per month (shared 0.5 vCPU, 2 GB RAM), paid from your plan's monthly credits or on top. |
| Render | Free web services spin down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic; a Discord bot gets no web traffic. Other service types, such as background workers, have no free instances. | A paid instance (see render.com/pricing). |
| Railway | Free plan: $1 of usage credit per month, up to 0.5 GB RAM per service. Memory alone is billed at about $10 per GB per month, so a bot using 256 MB around the clock costs about $2.50 a month in memory, more than the free credit. | Hobby plan: $5 per month including $5 of usage. |
| ServerSpark | No free plan. | Bot hosting 512 MB: €0.69 per month paid per quarter (€2.07 every 3 months), €0.79 monthly billing. 1 GB: €1.49 / €1.79. 2 GB: €2.09 / €2.29. Runs 24/7, no sleeping, no credits. |

When those platforms are the better fit
- You also run a website or API with a lot of traffic next to your bot, and want everything in one place.
- You want Replit's online editor and AI tools and don't mind paying for its plan anyway.
- Your bot only needs to answer webhooks or HTTP interactions, not keep a gateway connection open.
For a normal bot that logs in to Discord and stays connected, a bot host is simpler and cheaper.
Move your bot in 15 minutes
- Order the right plan. Bot hosting (Node.js) for discord.js, (Python) for discord.py, nextcord or py-cord. 512 MB is enough for most bots.
- Download your code. On Replit: download the project as a zip from the menu in the file tree. On Render or Railway: take it from your Git repository.
- Remove the keep-alive tricks. Delete the small web server (often
keep_alive.pywith Flask, or an Express server) and any uptime pinger. Your bot doesn't need them any more. - Check your package list. Node.js:
package.json. Python:requirements.txt(for examplediscord.pyandpython-dotenv). These are installed automatically when the bot starts. - Move your secrets. Replit Secrets or the Render/Railway environment variables become a
.envfile on the server:DISCORD_TOKEN=your-token. Never put the token in your code or a public repository. - Replace Replit Database if you used it: it only works on Replit. SQLite is a good, free replacement; see Discord bot with a database (SQLite).
- Upload and start. Upload your files in SparkPanel under Files (or via SFTP), check the startup file under Settings (
index.jsorapp.pyby default) and click Start. Prefer Git? Email us the repository link and we set it up so every restart pulls the latest code. - Stop the old copy. Turn the bot off on the old platform, otherwise two copies answer every command.
Every step in more detail: Run your Discord bot 24/7.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still host a Discord bot 24/7 for free on Replit? Not reliably. On 28 October 2026, Replit's Starter plan included one free published app that expires after 30 days; always-on Reserved VM deployments started at $15.00 per month.
Why does my Discord bot go offline on Render's free plan? Render's free web services spin down after 15 minutes without inbound traffic, and a Discord bot receives no web traffic. Background workers have no free instances on Render.
Is Railway's free plan enough for a Discord bot? Usually not for 24/7: the Free plan gives $1 of usage credit per month and memory costs about $10 per GB per month, so a bot using 256 MB all month uses about $2.50 in memory alone.
What is the cheapest way to run a Discord bot 24/7? At ServerSpark, bot hosting with 512 MB costs €0.69 per month paid per quarter (€2.07 every 3 months) or €0.79 with monthly billing, VAT included, with no sleeping and automatic restarts after a crash.
Do I need to change my bot's code? Usually only two things: remove the keep-alive web server and read the token from a .env file. Code that used Replit Database needs another database, such as SQLite.
